Inside Aquafan: what you’re paying for
Aquafan opened on 14 June 1987 on the inland edge of Riccione, opposite the A14 toll booth. It has grown into a 90,000 m² park with more than 3 km of slides and around 10,000 trees and shrubs. It’s run by Costa Edutainment alongside Oltremare next door. For Italians it’s as much a summer ritual as a water park, known for its DJ nights and youthful crowd, while still catering well for families.
All slides and attractions are included in your ticket. The ones people queue for:
- StrizzaCool — the biggest attraction: twin slides for rafts of three or four, one straight and steep, one twisting through a tunnel. It moves around 1,500 riders an hour, so the queue moves fast.
- M280 — the 2021 super slide: 280 m long with a 20 m launch height, combining a tube, a funnel and a half-pipe in one ride of about 280 seconds.
- Extreme River — a 16 m half-pipe ramp ridden in two-person boats. Opened in 2000, it was the first of its kind in Europe.
- Speedriul — a two-person funnel slide launched from 5 m above the Extreme River’s start (named after the Romagna dialect word for funnel).
- Black Hole — 208 m of pitch-dark tube.
- High Slides, Twist (three intertwined spirals) and River Run (open July and August only) for teens and adults.
- Kamikaze, the twin-lane speed slide opened in 1991, has been listed as temporarily closed — check the attraction page before you go.
The wave pool is the heart of the park, with waves every hour announced by a bell. For younger children there are three dedicated zones: the Elephant Pool, where the water is no more than 60 cm deep; Arca Beach, with a Noah’s Ark and four slides; and Antarctic Baby Beach. Adults can retreat to Poseidon, three linked whirlpool lagoons, or float the 130 m Slow River.
Who suits it? Teens and adults get the most from the big slides. Families with under-10s will spend most of the day in the children’s zones, wave pool and lazy river.
Timing is everything
- Season: Aquafan opens in early June and closes in September. Look for the official calendar each spring. Daily entertainment runs only in July and August, and the Rapid River is closed in June and September.
- Hours: 10:00–18:30, with slide queues closing slightly earlier. In 2026, four summer evenings (“The Long Sunset”) kept the park open until 23:00, with slides running until 22:30.
- Busiest: weekends from mid-July to the end of August, especially around Ferragosto (15 August).
- Quietest: June weekdays before the Italian school holidays fill the coast, and the final days of the season.
Arrive at opening and go straight to the big slides — StrizzaCool, M280 and the Black Hole — before the queues build. Spend the hot middle of the day around the wave pool and Poseidon, then return to the slides after 16:00.
Insider tip: Planning two visits? Go to the Information Office before 18:00 on your first day. For €10 you’ll get a photo-personalised ticket for a second day of your choice that season — much cheaper than a second full ticket.
The insider entry
The AquaPass is a wristband that gives priority lanes at the main slides, once per slide. It’s priced by height, not age: €30 for adults over 140 cm and €25 for juniors up to 140 cm, with the included slides depending on height. For StrizzaCool, the Black Hole, Speedriul and M280 you’re given a time slot when you buy. It doesn’t remove queues entirely and doesn’t replace the entry ticket. It’s worth it on August weekends and rarely needed in June.
How to save on tickets
- Buy online. The official online adult rate is €28.50 against €33 at the gate. Tiqets sells skip-the-line entry from €33, which keeps everything on your phone if you’re booking several Riviera parks.
- Under 100 cm is free. Children from 100 to 140 cm and over-65s pay €23–€24 online.
- Go in the afternoon. From 14:30 an afternoon ticket costs €21. On late-opening evenings it starts at 18:00 and costs €15.
- Use the €10 second day (see the tip above) rather than buying two full tickets.
- Combine parks. Aquafan + Oltremare costs €47, + Italia in Miniatura €46 and + the Acquario di Cattolica €45. Each combo is valid all season, on the same day or different days.
- Staying all summer? Season passes start at €110 for local young people, and a €200 Costa Parchi pass covers Aquafan, Oltremare, Italia in Miniatura and the Cattolica aquarium.
Practical details before you go
- Lockers: most are electronic. Key lockers come on a wristband, for €5 plus a €10 deposit. For valuables, the Information Point stores items in sealed bags for €8.
- On the slides: no bum bags, hats, glasses or other accessories. Filming is allowed only with an action camera on a harness.
- Not allowed in the park: glass or metal containers, diving into the pools, and running.
- Pregnant visitors and anyone in a cast pay a reduced price but are limited to calm areas such as the wave pool and Poseidon. Pregnant visitors can also use the slow river and the children’s pools.
- Weather: in severe weather the park can close without refunds, so check the forecast on unsettled days.
Getting there without the hassle
Aquafan is at Via Ascoli Piceno 6, 47838 Riccione, beside the A14 Riccione exit:
- By car: leave the A14 at Riccione, or follow the Aquafan signs from the seafront. The large car park next to the entrance costs €9 a day (campers €15). Pay at the machines or information points before you leave.
- By bus: line 58 runs from Riccione station to the park (€1.50). From Rimini take line 11 to Piazzale Curiel and change to the 58. From Cattolica or Misano take the 125 and change at the same terminus.
- By train: get off at Riccione, or at Rimini if your train doesn’t stop there. The summer “Aquafan Link” ticket combines regional train and the 58 bus in one fare.
- By air: Rimini’s Federico Fellini airport is the closest. Bologna is the main year-round airport, about 1.5 hours by car or train.
Make it a trip
- Oltremare is right next door at the same address: do dolphins and the prehistory trail one day and slides the next with the €47 combo.
- Italia in Miniatura in Viserba di Rimini is a gentle sightseeing day for families.
- Mirabilandia near Ravenna adds big coasters and its own Mirabeach water park.
The Adriatic Riviera theme parks guide compares them all, and the water parks hub covers the rest of Europe.
